Look to the West.
Acupuncture is a therapy developed more than 2000 years ago in Asia that consists of stimulating designated points on the skin by the insertion of needles in order to restore and   balance the body's energy or "Qi" (pronounced "chi").  Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years in China. It is still the treatment of choice for a quarter of the world's population despite years of comparison to western medicine. Here at Dallas LMC  we use pre-sterilized, disposable needles and clean the area of the skin with alcohol before the needles are inserted.

Acupuncture FAQ:

DOES IT HURT?
Acupuncture is done with extremely thin, flexible needles made of silver alloy or stainless steel. More often than not, the experience is relatively painless.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER THE FIRST TREATMENT?
Depending on the problem being treated and your prior condition, you may experience a wide range of sensations. Since the treatment goal is the restoration and balance of the body's Qi, some patients will experience a burst of energy while others may feel relaxed or even tired. Many people experience a sense of calm and well being.

HOW LONG DOES TREATMENT TAKE?
The average treatment lasts about 20-30 minutes, but can go up to as long as 45 minutes, depending upon the problem being treated. Office visits can take up to an hour and a half for the initial visit, and an hour for follow-up visits. We encourage patients not to schedule so tightly that they are stressed out about the time during their appointment.

Some conditions are improved with one visit; other treatments will involve multiple visits. On average, with weekly treatment a condition should show some improvement within 8-12 visits. If you do not see any improvement during that time, it may be appropriate to re-evaluate with the doctor whether or not to continue in treatment.

CAN ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT HELP WITH NON-PHYSICAL PROBLEMS?
Yes, indeed. Five element acupuncture views the body, mind, and spirit as a whole. All physical disorders will cause an imbalance in the mental outlook and spirit of a person. This may manifest as depression, anxiety, anger, sadness, and the like. All five element acupuncture treatments aim to restore the harmony of body, mind, and spirit. Thus, the physical and non-physical sides of a patient are treated together.

WILL MY ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENTS BE COVERED BY MEDICAL INSURANCE?
Dallas LMC does not participate in any managed care plans or healthcare networks. Payment in full is requested at the time of treatment either by check, major credit card, (we accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express), or cash. Many of our patients receive reimbursement from their insurance companies, especially since the treatment is overseen by a physician. It is best to consult your insurance company before making an appointment to determine the specifics of your coverage.

Holistic Healing.
Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This is done by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points. The classical Chinese explanation is that channels of energy run in regular patterns through the body and over its surface. These channels, called meridians, are like rivers flowing through the body to irrigate and nourish the tissues, blood flow and nervous pulses also follow meridians to run through the body to various parts, structures and organs. An obstruction in the movement of these energy rivers is like a dam that backs up the flow in one part of the body and restricts it in others. Any obstruction and blockages or deficiencies of energy, blood and nervous pulses would eventually lead to disease. The meridians can be influenced by needling the acupuncture points: the acupuncture needles unblock the obstruction at the dams, and reestablish the regular flow through the medians. Acupuncture treatments can therefore help the body’s internal organs to correct imbalances in their digestion, absorption, and energy production activities, and in the circulation of their energy through the meridians.
